A very interesting weekend all round
Ridgewood defeated local rivals Buxted four-one at the Uckfield All-weather Pitch
Elsewhere in the weekend’s local football, despite a battling performance, AFC Uckfield Town went down to a one-nil defeat at top-of-the-table Littlehampton in the Southern Combination League.
Nutley were three-two winners over Nutfield. Newick lost five-two at Willingdon Athletic Reserves, while Maresfield were beaten two-one by Newick Reserves.
And in a cup match, there was disappointment for Uckfield United, as they lost four-three at Furnace Green United.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes boosted their play-off hopes with a fine two-one victory at fellow play-off contenders Folkestone.
In women’s football, there was an excellent win for Brighton and Hove Albion’s ladies team, who won two-nil at West Ham in the Women’s Super League. Lewes’ ladies Championship fixture at London City Lionesses was postponed.
In rugby union, there was a convincing win for Uckfield, who beat local rivals Lewes by 45 points to 15 at Hempstead Fields and in cricket, Sussex’s county team continue their pre-season preparations with a three-day match against Durham University, which begins this morning at the County Ground Hove.
