Wealden Retirement Living receives top accreditation

Wealden District Council has retained its EROSH (Emerging Role of Sheltered Housing) Code of Practice accreditation

This followed an annual independent review of the council’s Retirement Living service, following an in-depth three-day assessment in 2021.  The service was once again, found to be of an outstanding quality.

The EROSH Code of Practice enables service providers such as the council to demonstrate the quality of its sheltered accommodation and services against nationally recognised standards.

Five key areas of the Retirement Living service were independently reviewed, including management and governance of the retirement living courts; value for money and effective use of resources; the equal and respectful treatment of residents; effective and personalised service and customer safety. The assessor also interviewed some key members of staff and a number of residents across Wealden’s 11 Retirement Living complexes.

Councillor Ray Cade, portfolio holder for Housing, said, “We are delighted to learn that our Retirement Living service has retained the top accreditation from EROSH following their assessment of our retirement courts.

“Our service is considered to be of an ‘outstanding quality’ and I have to say that I am not surprised having seen it first-hand. I would like to congratulate the housing and retirement living staff on this special achievement. It’s down to their dedication and hard work that our customers receive such a high standard of care and support.

“Whilst the service is outstanding, there remains a drive amongst the team for continuous improvement as leaders in this sector. We shall be reviewing the assessor’s observations

and working hard with other council departments and partners to implement these over the next 12 months.”

Wealden Retirement Living provides residents with housing that includes on-site support to enable them to live independently and in their own home for as long as possible. The service can be accessed by Wealden residents aged 60+ who are able to live independently with low/medium support requirements.
