Posthumous award for local organ donors

The Order of St John Award for Organ Donation features the organ donation heart logo backed by the Maltese Cross - which is used by the Order of St John - above the words ‘add life, give hope’.

Local people who saved lives through organ donation have been posthumously honoured.

They received the Order of St John Award for Organ Donation, run in conjunction with NHS Blood and Transplant, which was given to families and loved ones on their behalf.

The private ceremony took place at the Council Chamber at Lewes Town Hall on 25 May and honoured 13 donors with 10 from across Sussex.

Thousands of families will receive the award across the UK this year, either privately or at regional ceremonies. Between 2019 and 2021, more than 4,000 people donated organs after death leading to around 10,000 lives being saved or transformed.
