Nus Ghani welcomes Sussex Police road safety campaign

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, welcomes a campaign by Sussex Police to reduce the numbers of road injuries in East Sussex.

Every weekend between April and September, Sussex Police will be running ‘Operation Downsway’, a campaign aiming at reducing the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on the roads and reported incidents of anti-social driving.

This is a cross-force operation with Surrey Police, and involves multiple teams including the Sussex Safer Road Partnership, Casualty Reduction Team and Community Speed Watch groups.

Officers will provide a high visibility presence across the road network to make sure law-abiding road users including drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists can do so with confidence and in safety. They will target those individuals who are prepared to drive on the roads in an anti-social or irresponsible manner, as well as increasing regular speed checks and reckless driving.

Sussex Police are also encouraging residents to alert them to road related anti-social behaviour that impacts their local communities, which you can do here via the Operation Downsway survey here.

Nusrat Ghani said “The safety for both drivers and pedestrians alike, not just with accidents but in reducing anti-social behaviour on local roads can be improved, so I welcome this dedicated campaign by Sussex Police to crackdown on road-related incidents this summer. I encourage residents to support this initiative, and report incidents of anti-social driving and road safety issues in their local area to Sussex Police.”
