Ensuring top quality drinking water continues to flow in Uckfield as the community grows

A new water pipe will be installed in Uckfield in a £260,000 investment to meet increasing demand for drinking water from a growing community

A new water pipe will be installed in Uckfield in a £260,000 investment to meet increasing demand for drinking water from a growing community.

The project is due to begin on Monday, 6 June when South East Water will install a new 550 metre long pipeline to support the existing water main in Lewes Road.

Matthew Cooper, Project Manager for South East Water, said: “This investment will enable us to pump more water into the local area, ensuring residents and businesses in Uckfield continue to receive top quality drinking water as demand increases.”

Work is expected to take five months to complete. To minimise disruption, work will be carried out in phases along Lewes Road.

Phase one will see Lewes Road closed from Little Horsted roundabout to the entrance of Horstedpond Farm. Once this is complete and the road returned to its original state, work will move to phase two, past Horstedpond Farm to the Taylor Wimpey development. The final stage will be up to the junction with New Road. This junction will only be affected once we cross the junction towards the end of the project.

Matthew added: “Road closures are always a last resort but this is vital to ensure the safety of our team and the public while we install the new pipe. Our team will work as quickly and safely as they can to complete the project as soon as possible.
