Council invites views on Landport playground improvements

Lewes District Council is inviting people to have their say on how two playgrounds in Landport can be improved.

The consultation for Landport Recreation Ground (the bigger playground) and De La Warr Green (the smaller playground) was launched yesterday (Monday, January, 16).

This is part of a £400,000 council investment to transform playgrounds across Lewes district over two years.

Councillor Julie Carr, Cabinet Member for Recycling, Waste and Open Spaces, said: "We would like to hear from people who use these playgrounds about what equipment and facilities they want there. This feedback is crucial for helping us make the right improvements so please take a few minutes to fill out our survey."

The consultation runs until Tuesday, February 28, and surveys can be filled out online at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/Landport

This comes as the redevelopment of a play area in Bell Lane, Lewes, reaches completion under the council's two-year programme following a consultation with residents last year.

As part of the improvements at Landport, the council is looking at planting wildflower areas and enhancing biodiversity at both sites. The council is also planning to upgrade Landport's skate park and bike track and a further consultation on this will be held later this year.

Additionally, people will be invited to take part in a consultation on improvements for Malling Recreation Ground in Lewes this summer.

Councillor Carr added: "We are driving ahead with plans to upgrade and replace play facilities across Lewes district in our commitment to making our area an even better place to live."

Paper copies of the survey are also available to collect and drop back at the Tenant Resource Centre, 2a Horsfield Road, Landport, Lewes, BN7 2TA on Sundays and Mondays, or at the Lewes District Council office at Southover House, Southover Road, Lewes, BN7 1AB, on weekdays.
