In the weekend’s local football, there was defeat for both the area’s senior teams.
Despite a battling performance against the league leaders, Crowborough Athletic went down three-two at Newhaven.
AFC Uckfield Town lost by the only goal at home to Peacehaven and Telscombe. Uckfield are back at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they entertain Lingfield.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood won three-one at Peacehaven and Telscombe Reserves. Barcombe were two-one winners over Lectern Lights, while Plumpton beat Maresfield four-nil. Elsewhere, Fletching drew one-all with Portslade Athletic, and Nutley were beaten five-three at Burgess Hill Rhinos.
And in cup matches, Jarvis Brook won three-nil at AFC Ringmer, while Rotherfield lost two-nil at Battle.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes picked up a good point from a two-all draw at promotion-chasing Hornchurch.
Lewes’s ladies team beat Sunderland two-nil, there was another brilliant performance by Brighton’s men’s team, who crushed West Ham four-nil at the Amex Stadium.
In local rugby, there was another good win for Crowborough, as they defeated Folkestone 47-10. But, Uckfield went down 43-nil to top-of-the-table Eastbourne at Hempstead Fields.
