It was a disappointing weekend for our local senior football teams.

AFC Uckfield Town lost to Bexhill United for the fourth time this season, as they were beaten two-nil at the Oaks.

Meanwhile, Crowborough Athletic’s recent impressive run came to an end with a three-two defeat at Little Common.

Both teams are in action tomorrow evening. Uckfield host league leaders Crawley Down Gatwick, while Crowborough visit Worthing in the Sussex Senior Cup.

Elsewhere in the weekend’s local football, there was another win for Jarvis Brook, who won four-nil at Brighton Electricity.

In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood drew one-all at Hurstpierpoint. Newick beat local rivals Fletching two-nil and Barcombe were four-two winners over Portslade Athletic. Hartfield beat Oxted and District ‘A’ team four-one and Plumpton defeated Athletico Burgess Hill by the same score. And there was a big win for Maresfield, who overcame Lectern Lights Reserves eight-three.

And in cup matches, Rotherfield beat Willingdon Athletic two-nil, while Nutley lost to Lectern Lights’ first team three-nil.

Lewes moved to within two points of the play-off places in the Isthmian Premier Division after a three-two victory at Bowers and Pitsea.Brighton and Hove Albion had to settle for a point from a one-all draw at arch rivals Crystal Palace.

In women’s football, Lewes’s ladies lost two-nil at Bristol City. And there was a heavy defeat for Brighton’s ladies, who lost six-two against Aston Villa.

In local rugby, Uckfield won a tight game at home to Seaford by eight points to five. Meanwhile, Crowborough had a good win over Charlton Park by 26 points to ten.

For local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting at Plumpton this afternoon – the first race is due off at half past one.
