Weekend Sporting report

In the weekend’s local football, there was a good win for Crowborough Athletic

They defeated Eastbourne Town two-nil.  But, it was another disappointing result for AFC Uckfield Town, who were beaten by the same score at Eastbourne United.  Uckfield are back in action tomorrow evening, when they host Little Common – kick-off at the Oaks is at 7.30 pm.

 

Also in the Southern Combination League, Jarvis Brook continued their brilliant unbeaten run with a one-nil victory at Upper Beeding.

 

In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood won their local derby clash with AFC Uckfield Town Reserves two-one.  Rotherfield drew one-all at home to Westfield.  But there were heavy defeats for Nutley, who lost seven-two at Portslade, and for Maresfield, who went down eight-one at DCK Reserves.

 

Elsewhere in cup matches, Plumpton won an amazing game with Horsted Keynes seven-five after extra time.  Meanwhile, Fletching won three-one at Cuckfield, while Barcombe were beaten two-one at Old Oxted Town.

 

In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes fought back from two-nil down to earn a point from a two-all draw at high-flying Cray Wanderers.

 

And a stoppage time winner gave Brighton and Hove Albion a two-one victory over Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup yesterday.  It was a good day too for the Seagulls’ ladies team, who trounced West Bromwich ladies seven-nil in the Women’s FA Cup.  Meanwhile, Lewes’s ladies defeated Ipswich by the only goal.

 

In local rugby, Uckfield went down to Shoreham by 39 points to 27.  There was defeat too for Crowborough, who lost 29 points to five at Beccehamian.

 

Finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting this afternoon at Plumpton Racecourse, where the first race is due off at 1.30 pm.
