Once again, the weather badly disrupted the weekend’s local football programme.
Crowborough Athletic’s home game with Saltdean was one of the casualties. AFC Uckfield Town did manage to play, but they went down to a fifth straight defeat, losing four-three at AFC Varndeanians.
In the Mid Sussex League, Newick lost five-nil at Lectern Lights. Meanwhile, in a cup match, Ridgewood beat Sovereign Saints four-three at the Uckfield All-weather pitch.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes made it five wins out of six with a two-nil victory at home to Corinthian Casuals.
And in the Premier League, there was a memorable win for Brighton and Hove Albion, who were convincing three-nil winners over Liverpool at the Amex Stadium.
But, there was disappointment for Brighton’s ladies team, who lost three-nil at bottom club Leicester. Elsewhere, Lewes’s ladies won by the only goal at Southampton.
Finally, in local rugby, Crowborough went down to a 41 points to seven defeat at league leaders Old Alleynians. Meanwhile, Uckfield’s match at local rivals Haywards Heath was postponed.
