In the weekend’s local football, there was an excellent win for Crowborough Athletic, as they defeated the high-flying Steyning four-nil in the Southern Combination League.
But there was disappointment for AFC Uckfield Town, who went down three-nil at Hassocks.
Minor league football was again badly disrupted by the wet weather. In games that were played in the Mid Sussex League, Maresfield beat AFC Ringmer’s fourth team four-one, while Fletching lost four-nil at Burgess Hill. Meanwhile, in a cup match, Ridgewood were three-two winners over Balcombe.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes boosted their play-off prospects with a superb three-nil victory at third-in-the-table Bishops Stortford. Meanwhile, Lewes’s ladies team beat the London Bees five-nil in the Women’s FA Cup.
Brighton and Hove Albion eased into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable five-one win at Middlesbrough. The Seagulls have been drawn at home to either Liverpool or Wolves in the next round.
And, in local rugby, there was the narrowest of wins for Uckfield, who won at Crawley by 26 points to 25. Elsewhere, Crowborough were beaten by Deal by 38 points to eight.
