In the weekend’s local football, there was disappointment for Crowborough Athletic
Crowborough were knocked out of the FA Vase after a two-one defeat at home to Stansfeld. Crowborough took the lead just before half-time, only for the visitors to score twice in the last five minutes to snatch victory.
In the Southern Combination League, top-of-the-table Jarvis Brook won four-one at Worthing Town.
Meanwhile, in the Mid Sussex League, Buxted lost six-one at Ditchling and Fletching went down five-one at Eastbourne Rangers Reserves. Newick drew one-all at Lectern Lights, while Barcombe were three-one winners at Burgess Hill Rhinos.
There was a good win for Uckfield United, as they trounced Peacehaven and Telscombe’s third team six-one, while Plumpton beat Fairfield five-nil.
Elsewhere, in cup matches, there were wins for Rotherfield and Ridgewood, but defeat for Nutley.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes had to settle for a point in a goal-less draw at home to Cray Wanderers. Meanwhile, in the Premier League, despite taking a first-minute lead, Brighton and Hove Albion lost two-one to Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium yesterday.
It was a good weekend for our main local rugby teams. Uckfield beat local rivals Burgess Hill by 21 points to 10. And Crowborough moved off the bottom of the table, following a 35-10 victory over Thanet Wanderers.
For local horse racing fans, there’s a meeting at Plumpton this afternoon – the first race is due off at twenty to one.
