Persistent rain badly disrupted the weekend’s local football programme,
Games involving AFC Uckfield Town and Crowborough Athletic among those called off because of waterlogged pitches.
In matches that did survive the weather in the Mid Sussex League, Rotherfield drew five-all at Westfield. Ridgewood were beaten two-one by Crawley Devils at the Uckfield All-weather pitch. Maresfield were two-one winners over Fairfield, while Barcombe won three-nil at Ardingly.
And in the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes came away from their trip to Essex with a point from a one-all draw with Brightlingsea Regent.
In women’s football, Brighton’s ladies won a thrilling tussle with West Ham yesterday by five goals to four. Elsewhere, Lewes’s ladies’ home clash with Bristol City was another victim of the weather.
In rugby union, there was a good win for Uckfield, who beat Seaford by 19 points to 12. Meanwhile, Crowborough went down to a 43 points to nil defeat at Charlton Park.
