There was disappointment for both our senior football teams on Saturday, as AFC Uckfield Town and Crowborough Athletic went out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.
Uckfield went down four-one to Midhurst and Easebourne at the Oaks, while Crowborough were beaten three-two at home to Crawley Down Gatwick – the visitors scoring the winner in the 90th minute.
In the weekend’s local cricket, there was a good win for Uckfield Anderida, who defeated Linden Park’s third team by 28 runs. Buxted Park moved up to joint top of their league after a 51-run victory at Ifield, but in another top-of-the-table clash Isfield lost to Lewes Priory by five wickets.
Elsewhere in the Sussex Cricket League, Newick beat Bells Yew Green by eight wickets, while Fletching continued their excellent run with a four-wicket victory over Poynings.
There were wins also for Barcombe, Plumpton and East Chiltington, Nutley and Blackboys. Meanwhile, there was defeat for Rotherfield.
Sussex’s county team made it back-to-back wins in the Royal London One-Day Cup with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Leicestershire yesterday at the County Ground Hove.
