Great progress and achievements have been made in the last six months for communities and good causes in Wealden – thanks to the Wealden Community Lottery.
The lottery launched earlier this year as part of Wealden District Council’s aim to support community projects in the local area. The weekly lottery operates on the principle of raising money within the community for the community.
Tickets cost £1 with at least 60% from each ticket sold goes to support the Wealden district.
Since the launch of the lottery, £30,794.40 has been raised for good causes and the central fund combined. There are 894 players participating, 1758 tickets purchased per week and 73 good causes have signed up and are raising funds.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat), and lead councillor for Public Health, Wellbeing and Asset Management, said, “The Wealden Community Lottery has had a great first six months and I would like to thank all the local good causes who have signed up and residents who are participating in the lottery. Some local good causes have already been able to make changes to better their communities from the support received, Isfield and District Angling Club is a great example of this.”
Nigel Greenwood, trustee of Isfield & District Angling Club, said, “The reason we signed up to the Wealden Community Lottery was to improve our facilities and make one of our lakes into an accessible fishing lake, but we needed additional money to make that happen.
“I would like to thank residents and club members who have chosen us as their good cause, as the money raised so far is helping us as a club to make our ideas become a reality, which would have been a struggle without the community lottery and the backing of local communities.”
