Twenty-five new council homes are now available for residents on Wealden District Council’s Housing Register.
Located off Walshes Road within The Nightingales development in Crowborough, ten one-bedroom flats, five two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house are available for affordable rent through Wealden District Council.
Three two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses are also available to purchase for low-cost home ownership on a shared ownership basis to help those who are unable to afford on the open market. Shares are available from 25%.
The homes are spacious, close to local amenities and include solar panels and electric vehicle charging points. They are highly energy efficient and well insulated which will help to reduce energy consumption and utility costs to the occupiers.
Councillor Rachel Millward, Alliance for Wealden (Green Party), lead councillor for Housing & Benefits and leader of the council, said “There is an urgent need for more affordable housing in our district, and I’m delighted that this new development can help us support more families who are struggling to find properties which are affordable and available to rent.
“The housing emergency is constantly worsening, with soaring rents alongside the cost of living leaving too many residents struggling to keep a roof over their heads.
“We at the council are determined to do all we can for our residents, providing as much affordable housing as possible. But ultimately it will take government reform to enable us to provide enough housing for our residents’ needs.”
