Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has returned to Ashdown Primary School in Crowborough to speak to the new cohort of Year 5 children about her role in Westminster.
This term, the pupils have been learning about the democratic system of the UK, the role of Government and Parliament, and how laws are made. They had prepared some very insightful questions relating to their learning and quizzed Nusrat on her duties as Member of Parliament, her responsibilities in her new role as Minister of State at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and the British law-making process.
The class also engaged Nusrat in their thoughts on climate change, protecting the environment and the use of artificial intelligence.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I regularly visit Wealden schools and it is always fantastic to see how engaged and passionate our young Wealden residents are. I was delighted to return to Ashdown Primary School to speak to Year 5 pupils and explain my role as the voice for Wealden in the Commons Chamber. I’d like to thank their teacher Mr Angus for preparing our young generation so well for the future and I am hoping to welcome the class in Westminster soon, for their first-hand experience of our democracy.”
