Jill Parker, MBE, 82, steps down - true Community Stalwart

A woman who fought for almost 50 years to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities has finally decided to take life easier aged 82.

Jill Parker MBE has stood down as Chair of Trustees at The JPK Project, in Church Street, Old Town, Eastbourne.

She hosted a Thank You party on Saturday for everyone who has helped her make such a difference for people with learning difficulties.

JPK is a testament to her commitment fighting to make lives better for people with learning disabilities.

It's been a long battle but The JPK Project now has seven flats for adults with learning disabilities, plus a Centre at the front of the building.

Jill said: "It was a Thank You party - not a retirement one - to thank all the people who were with me on our 20-year journey. There were some very special people.

"My daughter Katie is very settled. That is very pleasing and I am so pleased my late husband Patrick was alive to see her move in. Patrick was my rock and strength throughout this lengthy journey with his wisdom and knowledge."

In 2015 Jill received the MBE for her life of devotion - so richly deserved - and on behalf of people with a learning disability.

"These people gave me the motivation along with all the friends, volunteers and fundraisers who helped us and my fellow Trstees who have come and gone over the years."
