East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews successfully extinguished a small, accidental beach fire on the evening of Sunday, July 5, 2026

The Location: Crews responded to reports of a wooden groyne catching fire just off Prince William Parade.
The Response: A single fire engine from the Eastbourne Fire Station arrived at the scene after being dispatched at 8:53 PM.
The Outcome: Firefighters used a single hosereel jet to quickly put out the smouldering flames.
Casualties & Cause: There were no injuries reported, and official statements confirm the blaze was entirely accidental
