A section of burst prone water pipe causing regular disruption to the local community around the Queen’s Road area of East Grinstead has been totally replaced two months ahead of schedule.
South East Water’s £350,000 engineering scheme has come in for praise with the work force being described as ‘excellent and super-efficient’ having done ‘a fantastic job’.
This was part of an £850,000 investment by the clean drinking water only company to improve East Grinstead’s water supply, and follows a project in Turners Hill Road last year.
Queen’s Road was closed to through traffic from 9 January, with work expected to take 28 weeks to complete however, the construction team completed the work ten weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
The company is three years into a five year £489 million improvement programme benefitting its 2.3 million customers across Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Berkshire.
Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager for South East Water, said: “We’re delighted that we were able to reopen the road more than two months early.
“The team working on this project was an incredibly efficient and dedicated group and this excellent work hadn’t gone unnoticed and received glowing praise.
“We always try to work as quickly as possible while maintaining the safety of both the public and our work force and finishing more than two months early is testament to the hard work of the team.”
Jeremy continued: “This new water main will reduce the disruption caused by frequent bursts. Along with the work carried out last year in Turner’s Hill Road and West Hill, we are securing the supply of top quality drinking water to customers in East Grinstead both now and in the future as the community continues grow.
“We’d like to thank residents and businesses in the area for their patience as we carried out this vital work.”
