Sussex put themselves in a strong position after day 3 of their County Championship clash against Worcestershire, ending the day with a 244 run lead, with Tom Alsop and James Coles combining well at bat, before a maiden first class wicket from Sussex born James Hayes helped keep Paul Farbrace’s side stay in control ahead of the final day’s action.

Looking at local cricket's season opening results now, Crowborough edged out a narrow 49 run victory against Newhaven, while Uckfield Anderida fell to a two wicket loss against Ringmer 2nd’s, as Buxted Park lost by 19 runs against Eastbourne.

Elsewhere, Heathfield Park defeated Ditchling by 85 runs, with Isfield convincingly beating Polegate & Stone Cross by seven wickets, as Newick fell to 38 run loss against Mayfield 2nd’s, while Fletching earned a 24 run victory against Lingfield.

Meanwhile Barcombe claimed an encouraging seven wicket victory against Crawley Down, as Plumpton & East Chiltington narrowly lost by 25 runs against Rottingdean 2nd’s, with Rotherfield falling to a close 11 run defeat against Bell Yew Green 2nd’s.

Lastly for the cricket, Nutley put in a commanding performance to beat Pett by eight wickets, while Blackboys lost by 28 runs against Selmeston and Alciston, as Hadlow Down fell to a four wicket defeat against Newhaven 2nd’s.

Finally in football now, Crowborough Athletic were unable to cap off their season with more success, losing 3-1 against league winners Hassocks in the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup Final.

The Crows started brightly, taking the lead early on through playoff final hero Rushaar Samuel Smikle in the fourth minute, and went into the break level, before Hassocks once again showed their good form from this season to claim a domestic double
