
A look at the local action for the weekend commencing 5th April
Sussex Cricket are back in action this morning in their opening fixture of the County Championship season away to Warwickshire, while the 14 man squad is surprisingly without Sussex native Henry Crocombe, with the game set to get underway at 11.
In football, AFC Uckfield Town were able to secure a 2-0 victory in their rearranged fixture at home against Infinity, taking the lead through a second half penalty from Ellis Wright, before Bryan Tshingoma's long range effort secured the points for The Oakmen as they climb up to seventh.
Lewes will face 10th in the league Wingate & Finchley at the Dripping Pan, with The Rooks sitting four points adrift of the visiting side in 13th.
Elsewhere, Crowborough Athletic will be hoping to carry on the momentum from their RUR Cup win on Wednesday when they visit AFC Varndeanians, as AFC Uckfield Town play their second game in three days away to bottom of the league Montpellier Villa.
In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Rotherfield will face Ringmer AFC at home in the Montgomery Cup semi-finals, while Ridgewood visit a mid table Cuckfield Rangers side, with Barcombe on the road against Welcroft Park Rangers.
Lastly in the men’s, Buxted are at home against second place Preston Manor Royals, while Newick are away against Maresfield Village needing a win to remain top of the division, with Plumpton Athletic welcome title challengers Scaynes Hill who sit in second two points behind Newick.
In women’s football on Sunday, AFC Uckfield Town will play their final match of the season at home against league winners The View, who have won all 11 of their matches so far.
Now in men’s rugby, and three more final matches of the season, with Crowborough away against top of the league Canterbury 2nd’s, as Heathfield & Waldron visit Cranbrook, while Uckfield will celebrate their league winning season at home against Ditchling.
Finally in women’s rugby, Sunday’s fixtures sees Uckfield’s final fixture away against title hopefuls Dorking, who currently sit two points clear in the division.
