Sussex fell to a five wicket defeat against Middlesex in the One Day Cup on Sunday, after a poor start with the bat left Paul Farbrace’s side with too much to do despite a spirited 73 run effort from Jack Carson, meaning they now sit seventh in Group B after one win from their opening three fixtures, as they now turn their attention to Friday’s clash at home against Lancashire.
In local cricket, Crowborough suffered a tight 39 run defeat to Firle, as Uckfield Anderida fell to a eight wickets loss against the Tunbridge Wells Borderers, while Buxted Park lost to Preston Nomads 2nd’s by five wickets.
Elsewhere, Heathfield Park earned a commanding nine wicket win over East Dean & Friston, with Newick claiming a five wicket victory over Lewes Priory, while Isfield fell to their first defeat in eleven, as their two wicket loss at the hands of Ringmer sees them stay top of the division, but sees their lead cut down to seven points with four left to play.
Meanwhile, Plumpton & East Chiltington were beaten by five wickets in their match against Edenbridge, as Barcombe claimed a six wicket win over Hurstpierpoint 2nd’s, with Fletching beating Willingdon by 81 runs.
Lastly in cricket, Rotherfield fell to a 214 run defeat against Kerala Strikers Sports Club, with Nutley losing by six wickets to Laughton, as Blackboys climbed two places after beating Pett by 82 runs, while Hadlow Down being beaten by second in their league Palmers 2nd’s by 98 runs.
Finally in football now, where Crowborough Athletic had a baptism of fire in their first fixture in the Isthmian South East, losing 5-1 away to Broadbridge, while AFC Uckfield Town earned a point thanks in part to a Connor Martin hat trick in their 3-3 with Infinity, with Jarvis Brook also having a hattrick hero in Jimmy Hoy, as they started their season strongly, beating Selsey 5-1.
