The A27 links key coastal communities between Eastbourne and Portsmouth and improvement work will continue this autumn and winter.
Work has been taking place already on Old Shoreham Road, Southwick tunnel and the Patcham viaduct.
Planned work is due to start shortly between Falmer and Southerham roundabout. Works will also start at the Adur viaduct and at Salvington in November.
Improvements include road resurfacing, renewal of road markings, bridge joint replacements, and updated signage.
